WIP on the Dragon 1/35 M1A2 SEP 1st Btl., 8th Cavalry Rgt., 2nd BCT "BLACK JACK", 1st Cavalry Div., Iraq 2004
Before today I never had a great experience with any kind of streaking products until today! Normally I added an oil dot filter to create a filter and a streaking effect at the same time, but today I thought, screw that! I'll try one last time! And im quite satisfied.
for the streaking effect I chose AK Interactive 123 OIF and OEF Streaking Effects which is an enamel based product.
Vertical lines are applied on one panel at a time. The more random the lines are, the more realistic the result. The lines are applied straight out the bottle, shaken very well of course.
The lines are now draged downward using a flat brush which is moistened a littlewith AK Interactive Odourless Thinner. The dryer the brush, more control you have over the effect.
The effect looks very subtle, and since this is the frontal armour plate of the Abrams I decided it could use a more grimy effect
Some more vertical lines are applied, focusing on the streaks which are applied a few moments ago.
I repeated the process by adding streaks, and smoothen them out with the flat brush. Now I'm satisfied
To show the process one more time. First adding the vertical streaks.
Drag the vertical lines downward with a flat brush slightly moistened with thinner.
And the desired effect. You can repeat the process a few times the enhance that effect, but I like to keep it subtle.
The effect is applied on all vertical and sloped surfaces.
The Abrams looks good to go, but there is still a lot to do. A little wear and tear. Rust effects. Mud, dirt Nd dust. The tracks. The equipment such as the antennas and machine guns. Oh. And the stowage!
