This week’s Rough Cuts are about empowerment. The first is going to be in a children’s collection I intend to publish next year, and the second from my forthcoming collection of new and selected poems to be titled Declaration.
As always, I appreciate your time and support, and welcome your feedback. Also, if you know anyone who may benefit from or enjoy one of these poems, feel free to share. Have a fantastic week!

Just one person, one just person,
may reverse any wrong.
Any person, just one person
can stand tall, brave, and strong.
Even the darkest of the dark
will vanish in the light.
Even the smallest purest heart
can change a wrong to right.

We become our stories,
yes and yet
let none among us dare forget
the tall tales told then and again,
horse chestnuts propagated by men,
and we grew in the shade of these
misogynistic fantasies,
fathers’ fiction, fathers’ fears,
the roots of our lives all these years.
.
We become our stories,
yes, so let’s
make this the day
girls will sing about,
rulers, warriors, centuries from now;
the day we woke up,
stood up, rose up, climbed up
- what hill? (Let the boys play.)
Goddesses take mountains!
