Since I featured this project on my profile page, I may as well tell you guys about it ^_^. Okay a little backstory, my significant others and I collect what others might call strange decor. Not the kind that makes people worry, but the kind that makes normal folks raise an eyebrow and go "Wow, that's weird". As to how we acquired a mannequin (we actually have two), two of the major department stores in our local mall went out of business last year and as a result sold off much of their furniture, fixtures and displays during their liquidation.
Now we had no idea at the time what we were going to do with some mannequins, we just thought they were neat. So, they sat in storage for a few months until we moved and then sat in the back of our garage until we started working on the garage. Finally, we decided that something needed to be done with them because they were too bland. And thus, the idea of the steampunk mannequin was born.
Since I joined this site mid project, I unfortunately don't have any before pics. The first few are where I started last night and the last one is what I got finished last night. She has arms too, but they are currently detached to allow for easier access of the torso. I started this project by spray-painting the base in metallic copper. Then I began sketching a design using red sharpie and painted over that with various acrylics leaving it just transparent enough that I could go over the details later with black paint.
As you can see there is still a lot of detail work to be done on the back. I just hope that it turns out as well as the front did. I think I'm going to stick with the copper, bronze, gray and black color set. I don't have any gold unfortunately, but if I get a hold of some, I may add some gold accents.
