About Peter
I am building a detailed historical reference and planning tool for Hearts of Iron IV players who enjoy recreating real military formations as accurately as possible.
The project focuses on significant historical divisions, corps, armies, commanders, equipment, and orders of battle. The aim is to connect real military history with the systems used in HoI4, while keeping the core historical database freely available to everyone.
I have always enjoyed the combination of history, research, data, and strategy games. HoI4 is at its best when the units on the map feel like actual military formations rather than interchangeable templates.
That is what drives this project: researching how armies were really organised, understanding why they were structured that way, and translating that complexity into something useful for HoI4 players.
I want the site to become a place where someone can look up a famous division, corps, army, or campaign and quickly understand both its historical structure and how it can be represented in the game.
A surprising amount of work goes into a single high-quality formation. Sources must be compared, organisational changes identified, equipment researched, and historical structures converted into game-compatible designs.
Contributions help support:
Research into new divisions, corps, armies, and campaigns
Expansion of historical Orders of Battle
Better historical equipment and unit data
Development and hosting of the website
New tools for converting historical formations into HoI4 designs
Support for major HoI4 mods and their expanded unit systems
The core historical content will remain freely accessible. Support simply helps me spend more time expanding and improving the project.
Buying me a coffee is a voluntary way of saying, “I found this useful; keep going.”
There is no obligation to contribute. Browsing the historical database, using the free tools, and sharing the project with other players already helps enormously.
For those who choose to contribute: thank you. Every coffee helps turn another historical formation, campaign, or obscure organisational chart into something the HoI4 community can actually use.
Help keep the research department supplied. ☕
