KNTFL Wrap Round 7

KNTFL Wrap Round 7

Jun 07, 2024

Kybybolite's dramatic victory over Bordertown by a point headlined the results from round seven of the Kowree Naracoorte-Tatiara Football League. The Tigers looked in control of the top-of-the-ladder clash at halftime when they led by 20 points. Bordertown fought back in the third quarter to cut the margin to one point by three-quarter time. The Roosters led for most of the fourth quarter as they looked to hold on. Billy Laurie took a mark at the 25-minute mark at the top of the goal square and put the goal through to level the scores. The Tigers worked the ball forward where Billy Laurie laid a big tackle on an Bordertown opponent and was awarded a free kick 40 metres out from the goal. The siren sounded as Billy walked back with the ball to take his shot. Billy's kick had just enough momentum to sail through for a point to give the Tigers the victory.  The game of the round lived up to the hype. Billy led the Tigers with three goals for the game. Stephen Craig was also a strong contributor with three goals. The Tigers' best players were Andrew Bradley, Jack Trengove and William Russell. The Roosters were strong all game and were led in front of the goals by Jacob Eats and Tom Mackenzie who kicked three goals each. Harrison Fromm, Jaidan Kappler and Troy Blackwell were the Roosters' best players.

Reigning premiers Border Districts continued to turn their season around when they accounted for Penola by 62 points to record their third victory in a row. The game was a close contest up until halftime. Borders opened the contest up in the second half by kicking ten goals to one and ran out strong winners. Zac Richards had a big game with four goals in the victory. Mark Quinn, Fraser Adams and Isaac Hewson were Border Districts best players. Penola tried hard but only found two multiple-goal kickers in the game for the afternoon in Jak Ryan and Garret Ha. Penola's best players were Jayden Eldridge, Gus Eckermann and Beau Shinnick.

Keith kicked straight in the victory over Padthaway. The Crows had trouble the previous week when they piled up the behinds against Naracoorte but turned it around on Saturday. The Crows won by 74 points to build the percentage back up again. Blake Read was on fire for the Crows with five goals. Alex Schiller also put in a strong performance with four goals. The Crows' best players were Daniel Bibby, Aaron Young and Cameron Craig. Padthaway was led in front of the goals with Tobin Cox putting through four majors. Jordan Hooper continued his consistent season in front of the goals with another two majors during the game. The Lions' best players during the game were  Jacob Fiebiger, Tobin Cox and Nathan McCarthy.

Lucindale put in a percentage-boosting performance when they faced Naracoorte. The Roos defeated the Demons by 80 points to record their fourth victory of the season. Tom Logan kicked seven goals in the victory. Matt Kelsh, Luke May and Jack Yates were strong contributors during the game with two goals each. Tom Fisher, Bradley Agnew and Jack Yates were Lucindale's best players. Matt Willson fought hard for the Demons with two goals. The Demons' best players were Ralph Palma, Taylor Lawrie and Kai Schmid.

Mundulla solidified their spot in the top two after shaking off a persistent Kingston team after halftime. The Tigers and the Saints were having a strong close contest in the first half. Kingston's poor kicking for goal in the second quarter cost them any momentum going into halftime. Mundulla put their foot down in the third quarter and took a stranglehold on the contest and ran away in the end to win by 72 points. Billy Wiese kicked four goals in the victory for Mundulla. Austin Davies was also strong in the victory with three goals. Nathan Studham, Reagan Tink and Billy Wiese were Mundulla's best players. Kingston had trouble finding a consistent avenue to goal during the game. Todd Lockwood stood up with three goals in the end. Chris Draper, Jack Tapfield and Ethan Murdock were Kingston's best players.

There are no KNTFL games on during the King's Holiday long weekend. There is an underage interleague competition but none for the senior team. Round eight is on Saturday, June 15th.
