I am in Scottsdale, Arizona right now, playing some shows for Switchback. My buddy Norm Weitzman brought me to an exhibition of artists that were set up near his house. An expansive vinyl tent was set up on a concrete pad. There were several wings to the exhibition tent, in fact, we only saw a fraction of the various areas that had artists. The art was amazing, huge canvases of mountain ranges, exquisitely detailed wild animals, bronze sculptures of faces, portraits of famous and not-so famous people in photographic-finish and complicated felt creations for the wall. It is truly amazing to think of how art permeates our world and how especially this high-end art still requires the creators of it to sit in a tent, showing their wares, albeit a pretty snazzy tent.
Next month, people in the Chicago-land area will have the first chance to see my art in (almost) its entirety at the Woodstock Opera House. It is, in an odd way, a fitting choice for me to exhibit there where I pretty much began my musical career. On February 10, I will have a reception for two hours (4-6 pm) in which people can stop by, meet me and look at the art.
Creating art is challenging as there is no way to calculate the time, the emotion that is poured into it. And visual art is in many ways more exasperating than music in the logistics involved in transporting art from one exhibit to another. I ask those of you who subscribe here to Marty Fine Art to keep an eye out for a gallery, an exhibit space near where you live. It doesn’t have to be snazzy, just a place in which people who love (and purchase) art can gather. That space may just be able to be the place where I can show your community my art.
Finally, I ask you to consider that a tube of professional acrylic paint can run close to $20 a tube.
