I’ve had a dream since childhood of moving back to my childhood home in the country. After several years away, I decided that I’m not getting any younger and need to get hot on my dream.
My goal is to have a self-sufficient farm where I grow most of my own food. I now own the 40 acres I grew up on. It hasn’t been a farm since 1956, and hasn’t had a building since the house and barn burned from arson in 2001. I’m not starting completely from scratch, but close.
I’ve also wanted to do woodworking since I was in college in the early 1990s. I’ve amassed quite a few tools over the years and have enough for a good start.
I sold my house a few months ago and moved back to my 40 acres. Since then everything has fallen apart. That’s a bit of an exaggeration, but my kids and I are essentially living homeless. I was perfectly fine living this lifestyle myself, but not what I had planned for the kids. Granted, they are both grown adults so they had/have other choices, but they are also creatives who have overlapping interests with mine and I’m hoping to build up a farm and business to pass on to them (or at least one of them).
What I lack is the income I need to get these dreams off the ground. I’m in the process of building temporary housing (tiny houses) for us each until we can build more permanent and not as tiny homes. I have plenty of timber to build tiny log cabins. One of my cousins is going to help me build a woodworking shop. We have most of the materials for it, but circumstances in both our lives prevented us getting started during the summer when we developed the plans.
Long story short, I don’t make enough to speed up the process of building and the woodworking business is going to be my side-hustle - which I can’t do at the present time. So, I am asking for help to buy materials, buy necessities like gasoline and propane until we can get (at least) a temporary pole installed and electricity hooked up, and whatever else comes up that my current salary doesn’t cover.

Foundation level ($5/mo) will get an exclusive weekly post with building updates. These will be pretty detailed though some weeks will undoubtedly be “I was unable to do anything but survive.”
Wall level ($10/mo) will get the exclusive written post plus a video update. It is unlikely at this time that it will be a polished video because all of my video apps are on my desktop computer in storage. It will be rough and raw and full of pauses, but it will be me talking and more perspective than still photos.
Someday I might have Roof ($25/mo) and Skylight ($100/mo) levels, but I’m thinking those will come with hand-crafted gifts and I will need at least a temporary workshop first
