My Top Three Tech Gadgets
The following pieces of tech have great features that help me with all kinds of productivity stuff, like organising my work, staying focused, and not getting sidetracked. If you have some money to spend and want to try out something new, I couldn’t recommend them highly enough:
IPAD Pro 12.9inch - My iPad Pro 12.9 inch with the M1 chip is the primary device I rely on daily. Having been a user of iPad Pros for so long now, I feel clunky and awkward when I have to switch back to using a laptop or desktop. I'm deeply entrenched in the iPadOS ecosystem, which makes everything I do, from work tasks to personal projects, seamless and efficient.
My iPad isn't just any computing device; it's my digital hub, blending power with the intuitive iPadOS environment, making every swipe, tap, and command second nature. With the equally impressive Magic Keyboard and Apple Pencil, whether drafting documents, editing videos, or managing my digital life, my iPad Pro with its M1 chip is irreplaceable. It's not just about what it does - it's about how effortlessly it fits into my life, making the idea of going back to a conventional laptop feel like a step backwards.
Sure, there are some issues with it. Such as not having enough data ports, the Face ID camera being in the wrong place, and the filing system still leaving something to be desired. I'd also quite like it a little bigger. But I've had it so long now that I've got workarounds for its little quirks. KINDLE Paperwhite Signature Edition - The Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition is the proverbial library in my pocket, serving as my go-to reading companion that keeps the entire world of literature at my fingertips. As someone deeply invested in the tech side of things, I appreciate its blend of simplicity and advanced features - it's tailor-made for book lovers who also crave a bit of modern tech sophistication. The Paperwhite's glare-free display mimics real paper even in bright sunlight, making it a joy to use outdoors. Its Signature Edition perks, like wireless charging and auto-adjusting front light, elevate the reading experience to levels I didn't know I needed until I had them. With its generous storage capacity (32GB), I can carry an extensive collection of books without ever worrying about running out of space. Unlike using the Kindle app on my iPad, the Kindle offers a distraction-free reading environment that is a bit of a relief in a world filled with pings and notifications. I can say with hand-on-heart that when I have to use physical books or read on a different device, it feels like stepping back from the convenience and comfort of the Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition.

IPHONE 15 Pro Max - My iPhone 15 Pro Max, paired with my iPhone 13 Mini, is the cornerstone of my videography toolkit, enabling me to capture and produce content with remarkable efficiency and creativity. The 15 Pro Max's camera system is a significant factor in this setup. It features a 48-megapixel primary camera with a Sony IMX-803 image sensor and an f/1.78 aperture, delivering sharp, high-resolution photos and videos. The telephoto camera, at 12.7 megapixels with a periscope lens, and the ultra-wide camera, at 13.4 megapixels, enhance the versatility of my shoots, allowing me to capture a broad range of angles and details with clarity.
The introduction of the periscope lens system is particularly transformative, offering between 5x and 10x zoom capabilities. The One Touch Rule
Imagine your study material or project tasks as a stack of plates. Each plate is a task - maybe it's a chapter you need to review, an assignment to complete, or a set of problems to solve. The "One Touch Rule" suggests that once you pick up a plate (or task), you don't put it back down until it's clean (or done). Suppose you open a textbook to study a chapter. In that case, you stick with it until you've understood or completed your study goal for that section. No flipping to another chapter or switching to a different subject before you're done.
Why does this work? It keeps your focus sharp and prevents the spread of effort too thin across too many tasks. It’s like telling yourself, "I've got this one task, and I'm not moving until it's done." This approach reduces the mental clutter and the feeling of being overwhelmed, which is common when juggling multiple subjects or projects.
Applying it to exam preparation, you could break down your revision into bite-sized pieces. Each piece is tackled one at a time, with complete focus, before moving on to the next. No half-hearted reading of one subject with the mind wandering to another.
This method can also help improve your memory retention since you’re fully engaged with the material before you, giving it your undivided attention. It feels great to tick things off your list, boosting your motivation to keep going.
Remember, the key is to be realistic about what can be done in one "touch" or session. Don't set yourself up for a marathon session on a single topic if spreading it into more manageable chunks is more effective. The goal is to reduce stress, not add to it, by creating a manageable approach to tackling your workload.
World Wide Developers Conference 2024 and iOS18
Apple has confirmed that its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) is scheduled for June 10-14. This year’s event is teased to be “A(bsolutely) I(ncredible),” which is a hint that there will be advancements in AI and software updates to iOS in particular, as well as iPadOS and MacOS.
iOS 18 is shaping up to be an ambitious update from Apple, with various rumours and reports pointing towards significant enhancements and new features, primarily focusing on AI and improved interaction across Apple's ecosystem.
One feature expected in iOS 18 is the incorporation of RCS (Rich Communication Services), which aims to elevate the messaging experience between iPhone and Android users. This would include higher-resolution photos and videos, audio messages, typing indicators, read receipts, and improved group chat functionalities.
Apple is also reportedly focusing heavily on the aforementioned AI, with Bloomberg's Mark Gurman suggesting that iOS 18 could introduce a range of generative AI features across various built-in apps like Apple Music, Pages, and Keynote. This could include AI-assisted writing, slide deck creation, and auto-generated Apple Music playlists.
Moreover, Siri is expected to undergo a major revamp, utilising large-language models (LLMs) to enhance its conversational capabilities and integrate more deeply with other apps, like Messages and Shortcuts. This could significantly improve Siri's understanding of complex queries and tasks.
Additionally, iOS 18 is rumoured to introduce design changes, aiming for a fresh look while enhancing user experience and accessibility features. The Home Screen might also be revamped, allowing for more customisation and control over app icon arrangements.
The update is expected to be previewed at WWDC 2024 in June, with a developer version likely to launch at the event. A public beta would follow a few weeks later, with the final release coinciding with the launch of the next-gen iPhone, presumably in September.
