Today I completed a draft about Beatrix Potter and the heartbreak that she endured at the age of thirty-nine when her first fiance, Norman Warne, died less than a week after proposing to her. It was not an event I expected to find in the incredible story of her life, and when I first read about it in Linda Lear's Beatrix Potter: A Life in Nature, I knew that I wanted to write about it; I wanted to make this story known in order to humanize her, to make her more than simply an author of childrens' stories.
It will be published in a few weeks' time. I'm still editing it, and it's going to appear first in the spectacular Pens and Poison blog, because they have been kind enough to give me an opportunity to tell a story. I decided that this was the story I wished to share with their honorable audience.
There is so much to Beatrix Potter's life; I could write many, many articles about her, and probably will. She inspires me to be more than even I believe I can be; I hope that, if I can shed more light on her life, she will inspire others, as well.
