What do I do if my students can't be heard?
Prevent this from happening!!! Practice recording ahead of time.
When thinking about this problem, you need to think consider 2 things:
Is the inaudible portion going to be the key evidence that you are going to refer to in your responses to commentary prompts?
How much cannot be heard?
If most of the audio in the clip cannot be understood by a scorer, then you should submit a different clip. A scorer would be within the guidelines to give a condition code if most of your video is inaudible. It isn't worth the risk.
If there are occasional portions that cannot be heard AND they are relevant to your commentary responses, then do one of the following:
embed quotes with time stamp references in the commentary response
provide a transcript with time stamps of the inaudible portion and refer to the transcript in your response
insert captions in the video (captions for this purpose will be considered permissible editing)
This happens to most people who do not practice recording first!!
