Introduction
Delighting in the Lord Jesus is something I am learning in this season. To delight is to enjoy—to take pleasure in something. More and more, I’m learning to find my enjoyment in Christ. And as that delight grows, it naturally overflows into delighting in His Word and delighting to do His will.
A Life That Delights in God’s Word (Psalm 1:2)
Psalm 1:2 says the blessed person “delights in the law of the Lord.” They don’t merely read God’s Word—they enjoy it. They take pleasure in it.
And notice what follows: because they delight in it, they “meditate… day and night.” Our thoughts often follow our affections. What we truly love, we return to in our minds again and again.
It’s like the early days of marriage—when a couple first delights in one another, their mind can’t help but return to that person, replaying conversations and reflecting on time together. In the same way, when we delight in God’s Word, our heart keeps coming back to it.
Delight Leads to Obedience (Psalm 40:8)
Psalm 40:8 teaches that when the Word of God is in our hearts, it will cause us to delight to do His will. In other words, obedience becomes joy.
The will of God is not mysterious, nor is it burdensome, when the Word of God is in our hearts. We begin to take pleasure in doing what pleases Him.
Delight Becomes Wise Counsel (Psalm 119:24)
Psalm 119:24 reminds us that when the Word of God becomes our enjoyment, it also becomes our counsel. Scripture becomes the place we go for wisdom—especially when major decisions are in front of us.
And remarkably, there is joy in that guidance. The believer learns to love the benefits of seeking God’s direction.
Delight Turns Into Prayer (Psalm 119:35)
Psalm 119:35 shows how this delight becomes a prayer:
“Make me walk in the path of Your commandments…”
The believer knows that even with desire, they still need God’s help to walk faithfully. Delight doesn’t produce self-confidence; it produces dependence.
Delight Flows From Love (Psalm 119:47)
Psalm 119:47 reminds us that we delight in the Word of God because we love it. Our affections, desires, and longings are drawn to Scripture, and that is why we can take pleasure in it—reading it, studying it, meditating on it, teaching it, and living it.

Prayer
Lord Jesus, teach me to delight in You. Grow my affection for Your Word until it becomes my daily enjoyment. Place Your truth deep in my heart so that I would delight to do Your will. And when I face decisions, make Your Word my counsel and my joy. Help me walk in the path of Your commandments. Amen.
