Curiosity and Good Light and Alleyways

Last weekend I spent a few hours with a musician friend of mine, Barbara, shooting images for her press kit. We drove around and found some good light in an alleyway and shot a few rolls on my favorite medium format camera, the Yashica-C. When I was packing my gear and choosing the film for the shoot I came across a few packs of instant film for the Polaroid Land Camera that I've been hoarding for years and thought I'd bring them along and maybe shoot a few frames. I also wanted to try out these new 35mm to 120mm film spool adapters that will allow me to shoot a roll of 35mm in the Yashica and use the entire piece of film while capturing an image (I'll post once developed). So I threw those in the mix...I was curious. If you've shot film before you know the anticipation and excitement that comes from taking it in for development. There is a magic in seeing your images on film. Barbara and I chatted about curiosity and how acting on it is so important for growth as an artist. Accepting that you may find gold in your attempts or might be a total dead end, both are ok. I'm glad to have friends who are curious and are exploring their craft. Listening to the music come from her saxophone, in an alley on a Sunday afternoon was wonderful.
