If you're evaluating any resource on this topic, mine or someone else's, here's a checklist worth running it against before you spend money or time on it.
It Should Explain the Mechanism, Not Just List Symptoms
You should come away understanding why this happens, the shift from sensation to evaluation, the threat response competing with arousal, not just a description of what it feels like. Understanding the mechanism is what lets you recognize the pattern early instead of realizing only after it's already taken over.
It Should Address the Physical Layer Specifically
Sleep, alcohol, pelvic tension, medication side effects. These quietly amplify the anxiety pattern and most resources skip them entirely, jumping straight to the psychological piece as if the body isn't part of the equation.
It Should Give You a Regulation Technique You Can Use in the Moment
Not general relaxation advice, an actual, specific technique with a physiological basis, something you can reach for while it's happening, not just something to read about calmly beforehand.
It Should Include Real Cognitive Work
Identifying your specific automatic thoughts and having an actual process for reframing them, not a vague instruction to "think positive."
It Should Cover Partner Communication With Actual Language
Not just "talk about it," specific scripts you can use, because most men freeze exactly when they need words the most.
It Should Address Recovery After a Difficult Experience
How to reset without spiraling into rumination, because what happens in the ten minutes after a rough night often determines whether the pattern gets worse or starts easing.
