HOW WATER AFFECTS YOUR BODY

According to business man, author and pseudo-scientist Masuru Emoto

“Understanding the fact that we are essentially water is the key to uncovering the mysteries of the Universe”

He claimed that human consciousness could affect the molecular structure of water. His experiments demonstrated that by exposing water to positive and negative words, vibrations, and music and then freezing the water for microscopic observation, he observed different results in shape, form, and colour.

These results supported his original ideas, which he elaborated on in his book, "The Hidden Messages in Water."

WHAT ARE THE PURPOSES OF WATER?

Water serves many purposes and is crucial for life on Earth; without it, many living beings would not survive.

However, the value placed on water varies between individuals.

For some, its importance may be tied to their emotional, mental, physical, or spiritual well-being. This might lead one to visit:

  • a spa

  • enjoy seaside holidays spent by the swimming pool.

  • value long daily showers

  • visit historical villages

  • appreciate the local gastronomy

  • drink fresh spring water that contributes to their well-being.

These perspectives influence our subconscious mind.

YOUR BODY 60%-70% WATER

In the Middle Ages, Thomas Edward Peaswater was credited with discovering that the human body consists of 60 to 70% water while planet Earth is covered by 71% water—an enormous amount!

Let’s begin with two definitions of water.

LET'S BEGIN WITH TWO DEFINITIONS OF WATER:

What is water? According to Britannica:

Water is a substance:

  • exists in gaseous, liquid, and solid states

  • is a tasteless and odourless liquid at room temperature

  • Has the ability to dissolve many other substances

  • It is versatile as a solvent that is essential to living organisms.

According to Merriam-Webster:

 Water is a liquid:

  • that descends from the clouds as rain, forms streams, lakes, and seas

  • is a major constituent of all living matter

  • when pure is an odourless, tasteless, very slightly compressible liquid oxide of hydrogen H2O

  • freezes at 0°C and boils at 100°C

  • is a poor conductor of electricity and a good solvent

These definitions primarily focus on the chemical composition of water and its physical properties. However, since water is one of the four elements—water, air, earth, and fire—it also influences our emotional, mental, physical, and spiritual states. Regardless of how you value water, today I will discuss "How Water Affects Your Body."

THE JOURNEY OF WATER

The journey of water through your body is relatively straightforward. It enters through your mouth, travels to your stomach, and then enters your circulatory system via the small intestines. Blood then transports it to the various cells and tissues that make up your organs, bones, muscles, and more.

Dr. Natalia Dimitrieva, a heart researcher at the NIH, mentions two important points in her research on the long-term effects of inadequate water intake: first, that two-thirds of your body weight is water; and second, that water is involved in every bodily process, as all cells require water to function.

Based on this information, here is a list of body functions and their relationship with water:

And this is just a brief overview. Let’s break down this journey in more detail.

As food enters your mouth, saliva,(photo) which is primarily water, begins the process of breaking down the food. Then, in the stomach, water further helps to digest the nutrients, reinforcing the popular saying: "Wash down your food with water to aid digestion."

Depending on whether your stomach is full or empty, it can take from 5 minutes to 2 hours for water to enter your bloodstream via the small intestines. This absorption occurs through tiny finger-like projections lining the walls of the small intestines called “villi. Most of the water is absorbed here, then transported through the circulatory system to all the different cells and tissues that form your body. Therefore, it's essential to drink plenty of water for good blood circulation.

It's important to acknowledge the role of your kidneys in this process. Water passes through the kidneys, where it removes toxins, residues, and waste that accumulate in the blood and are eliminated through urination. Consequently, your kidneys filter and cleanse your blood.

The next stage in this journey is your large intestines, which provide another means of removing toxins. Water helps soften stools and prevent constipation.

The final stop of this water journey is your skin. Your skin plays a critical role in maintaining body temperature through perspiration and also helps eliminate waste, such as electrolytes and other materials your body needs to expel.

Water also boosts your immune system and enhances overall health. Water plays a crucial role in boosting your immune system and fighting off germs.

It helps protect your delicate bones, brain, spine, and vital organs. Water functions as a shock absorber in the synovial fluid of your joints and creates space between your organs, aiding their function.

To optimise your health, consider drinking plain water instead of tea, coffee, juice, or flavoured waters, which can add unnecessary sugars and calories to your diet.

Choose high-quality water to achieve the best results. Additionally, include more water-based foods in your diet to help meet your daily hydration needs. Foods like cucumbers (96% water), tomatoes (95%), and strawberries (91%) are excellent options.

Understanding how water travels through your body is vital in recognising the importance of drinking the right amount of high-quality water. Proper hydration supports all physiological processes, allowing your body to maintain a state of balance and harmony known as homeostasis. This balance is essential for overall health.
