One of my favorite bookstores, Mahogany Books (based in National Harbor, MD) curated a list of banned books by Black authors. I'm not going to get into the reason why the books were banned *cough, cough: racism and white fragility.* But while browsing the list, I was surprised to see books I've read as a child such as, "Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry", "I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings" and even a book about Ruby Bridges!
This holiday season, and other seasons as well, buy (or borrow from the library if you can) a book from the banned booklist from a Black-owned bookstore like Mahogany Books.
