Lost with the rain

Lost with the rain

Sep 08, 2022

My sister and I was born in the same city in the far south along the ocean a year and a half apart, but grew up in the heart of the mountains in the north with my grandparents & relatives after moving when I was around 3. I ended up never really knowing my father, even in the end, leaving my grandpa to be my father figure. But there was one memory that sticks out more than the rest:

I was around the age of 5 or was it 6, it was raining the whole day & we were to meet my father at the mall. That part I don't remember any of honestly, some time back I did ask mom about it and she said we had a nice time. However, what makes this memory stick is what happened after our trip to the mall:

We had gone to Burger King to get something to eat and for me it was the kids meal of course. With my meal I received the brand new pokemon ball with a gold mew card in the center. I do not remember what happened to the card but the ball, however, received a hilariously tragic end. Little old me threw it towards the door while attempting to capture my own pokemon and broke the pokeball. It's funny the things we do as kids and now that I think of it, that was also the event that lead me to love pokemon and other shows during my childhood.

On that rainy day was the only encounter with my father that I remember. Before his death this last year my mother did mention him and showed us photos we found from my grandparent's house. She never stopped us from trying to contact him either. My sister and I had our father figure in our lives and that was what really mattered.
