"You’re going to die."

"You’re going to die."

Sep 29, 2024

Not the title you were expecting to read today, right? But what if we thought more about our mortality—would we live differently? When I lost my little Mum, the one thing I craved more than anything was time. Just a little more time. One more hug, one more adventure. It wasn’t about anything else—just simple, beautiful time.

Before that, I don’t think I truly understood how precious time is. Losing Mum made me reflect on how I spend my own. What do I want to do with the time I have left as me?

We’re often so hard on ourselves about how we use our time. "Why did I waste it on that?" "I’ll never get those minutes back." We burden ourselves with regret.

But maybe the real question is: Are you happy with the choices you're making? Is there something you’d change about how you spend your time?

Even so-called “wasting time” can be a conscious choice. Why not give yourself permission to do nothing for a while? Set a timeframe, indulge in it, and enjoy it. Wasting time can be a luxury, so don’t beat yourself up over it. Choose it, and be happy with that choice—because maybe, just maybe, we need to waste time. Maybe we need to rethink how we view it altogether.

Why do we see wasting time as a bad thing? And if you're afraid of doing nothing, what are you really afraid of?

It might sound contradictory: waste time, but don’t waste time. The key is to own your choices.

In those moments when it feels like we're "wasting" time, maybe we’re actually living.
