Is it possible to love people simply for who they are?

imageRecently, at a party, a friend confided in me that she was disappointed with me. While I completely understood her perspective and acknowledged that I had let her down, it got me reflecting: can we love someone without expecting anything in return? Is there always some underlying expectation? Do we, consciously or not, always want something more?

Can you truly love someone without needing them to meet certain expectations? What is it that we want or hope for? Is it possible to just love someone for who they are, without anticipating anything in exchange? I believe this applies to both friendships and romantic relationships. Can we really love someone without expecting something from them?

It’s blown me away the amount of commitments I received on my last post regarding expectations. I love that you all reached out. It was super interesting and there was some strong responses. I know in the past a lot of my friends have not understood my line of work. I’ve missed weddings, birthdays and funerals. So believe me I know how tricky life and juggling commitments can be at times. I also choose work 99 percent of the time. What I would like to add and I feel at times we often put our own needs on hold to try and accommodate other but ultimately the most import thing is self love. You’ve got to make sure you have space for yourself. Self care. Time out. Recharge the batteries. I guess if a friend is hurt or upset deep down what they are trying to say is they miss you but I know if someone has a go at me then I honestly do not want to spend time with them. I know I’m being childish and this is something I need to work on. We are human and all have these feelings and thankfully we do but I guess ultimately the only person you have control over is yourself. So check in with you and ask yourself, what do you need?

For me spending time at home is the best place and I get to hang out with my dog 🐕 who unconditionally loves me and fills me with joy. 🤩 follow the Joy xx
