Karkade
The ruby jewel of Egypt,
Hibiscus, grows along the Nile.
Its scarlet petals are edible and
dried, making a restorative tonic
once known as the Pharaoh’s drink.
From Alexandria to Aswan,
traveling South to Sudan, it is served as
a welcome drink of hospitality.
Serve it hot or cold;
it is tart, refreshing, and bold.
Enjoy a cupful of hibiscus tea each day;
it will lower your blood pressure,
keep you cool in the hot desert sun.
Drink it to protect your heart, hon,
It restores your energy,
and it packs a punch of Vitamin C.
