If I Start Learning Arabic Again, This I ...

If I Start Learning Arabic Again, This Is How I Do It

Jun 24, 2022

1. Select the dialect from the start and keep using it

If you read this and you have decided to learn Arabic but don't know anything, it's important for you to know there are many different 'Arabic'.

People from the west coast of Africa right in Asia speak Arabic and wherever you go, it sounds very different, has different words, different grammar and in some cases sound like a completely different language (but still called "Arabic").

So before someone learns Arabic Language, they need to decide which part of the Arab world they are interested in and make the decision to remain with a certain Arabic variation at least for now.

You will not go far if you share your attention (I say the same thing about learning two languages at the same time).

On the initial days I started with Levantine (Palestine) and Iraq Arabic, and also modern Arabic Arabs for reading (formal media dialects).

2. I will not try to learn modern standard Arabic first

Or even at the same time as studying oral dialects.

I say choose a variety of Arabic and still use it but if your goal is to learn Arabic, then forget Arabic modern standards and focus on something that is truly talked about.

Modern Arabic standard is not spoken by anyone on earth as the original language. This is ancient, the grammar is more complicated to learn than oral dialect and you will understand almost no one when you travel to the Arab world (apart from TV).

Save yourself regret and read this article that I wrote that explains why I did not learn it first.

I made a mistake by devoting a little time for it in the early stages and continued to be frustrated when it was contrary to everything I learned about Egypt.

3. Learn the alphabet immediately and not only use Arabizi / Arab Franco

If you want to learn Arabic, don't postpone the alphabet!

Arabic script is actually what is called the alphabet which means it is an alphabet which mainly consists of consonants without vocals.

This means that a computer like a computer written in Arabic looks like this: Km * BYWTR.*

The problem is when you see a word written like this and you have never met him before, it is very difficult or impossible to know how it is spoken unless you can hear it.

You can guess but you can't know (you do increase this at a higher level and can make a more accurate guess).

I think this is one of the main reasons why people avoid the alphabet at all and use material with transliteration.

4. I will recognize and practice the importance of Arabic acculturation and assimilation since day 1

This is one of the most important things that I will say to you.

There is a big difference between learning Arabic and being Arabic.

Of course you will never be an Arab in a literal sense but it is a mindset that will make you successful when you learn from Online Languages Tutorзображення .

I have applied the same principle in every country that I have lived in the whole world while learning local languages and I always get respect from the local population for that.

One thing that is true -really separates what I do on this blog from most of the Learning Learning Blogs out there is that I take a very holistic approach for language learning that includes complete assimilation into the target language culture.

5. I will devote time at the beginning to surround myself with and listen to the target dialect

Be a fly on a wall in every Arabic language community that you can find.

I can't emphasize this if you want to learn Arabic as soon as possible.

Assuming you live in Western countries in or close to big cities - you may have a group of Arab community and events that occur somewhere.

I attend every event that I can when I start Arabic (Arabic Church, Islamic event, cultural festival, refugee center). If I was even suspicious that there would be Arabic speakers there, I was there.

If I start again, I will be more active in finding every opportunity to be around people and if this is not possible, at least I will have Arabic media that plays in my home every day so that my ears adjust it and skyping with Arabic speakers every day.

6. I will find Arabic teachers who not only drill grammar but teach in a communicative style in the dialect that I learned

I hate to say this but most of the original Arab teachers have one of two common problems:

 1) They teach using outdated and ineffective teaching methods.

2) They teach modern standard Arabic language as if it is a real Arabic language and does not understand the value of oral dialect.

The traditional teaching methods, all of which are about drilling the rules of grammar and boring memorization, are common throughout the world.

I have many bad teachers for many years (not only Arab teachers) and the ironic ones tend to be the most expensive.

If you feel overwhelmed, bored or confused in lessons, don't always blame yourself quickly.
