Much of the content we consume takes on the veneer of sameness. Hollywood churns out the same worn franchises. One social media influencer’s unique idea is quickly replicated to oblivion. As writers, we’re even told the “magic formula” to find agency representation and traditional publishing contracts is the same, yet different.

So how can we not grow tired of it all? How can we ensure that our writing transcends the ordinary?

We can deliberately chase freshness. When the spark of an idea comes, sit inside it, turn toward it, find its clear, new breeze. Show up in your spaces and write as you always have. Hold the magic close, in your alone moments with the page. Open that window to share with others too soon, and the wind may pass you by. Trust that no one on this planet can tell your story quite the way you can. Take chances. No one ever set the world on fire by playing it safe. And you’re about to set the world on fire.
