9 pubs of North Kent coastline
Eagle Tavern, Rochester, Knowle Spring Timothy Taylors 3.7% honey nectar heaven slightly warm, under city walls, deck garden
Pub 3⭐ Beer 4🍺
The Three Mariners, Oare, Rumour Mill Shepherd Neame 3.8% grapefruit zest, cool, nice creek views, verandah
Pub 4⭐ Beer 3🍺
The Four Horseshoes, Graveney, IPA Greene King 3.4% cereal treacle dullness, slightly warm, all the glamour of a 1970s prison with fake plants, baby seats but no carpet - an absolute bomb 😖
Pub 0⭐ Beer 2🍺
The Sportsman, Seasalter, Whitstable Bay Pale Ale Shepherd Neame 4% lemon & honey brightness with batter notes, sadly served in a PLASTIC beaker! Most lichened table in GB outdoors, cool, refreshing
Pub 2⭐ Beer 3🍺 (4-1 for plastic)
Rose in Bloom, Seasalter, London Pride 4.7% nutty bite and hop depth with friendly fruitcake, cool, very enjoyable, garden overlooks the sea
Pub 4⭐ Beer 5🍺
Ship Centurion, Whitstable High Street, once owned by Bill Gammon the 1900 forner bosun of the Great Eastern steamship, town crier at 1/6 a cry, live guitarist, free house, I enjoyed Adnams Southwold Bitter 3.7% chestnut treacle with chocolate warmth, perfectly served, 🐷 scratchings
Pub 4⭐ Beer 5🍺
Brickfield Micropub, Swalecliffe, 1381 Peasants Revolt ale 3.8% orange and lime with toffee, cool, a good venue with awful garden totally lacking charm
Pub 3⭐ Beer 4🍺
The Druid's Head, Herne Bay, darts, horse racing, footie specialist with more screens than windows, the Master Brew is permanently off "to be honest it's not very good today" and "here luv you don't havta buy half a pint to use the loo" a little disconcerting perhaps but I opted for Spitfire Amber Shepherd Neame 4% orange and ginger notes, well chilled, with 🐷 scratchings
Pub 1⭐ Beer 2🍺
King Ethelberts inn, Reculver, overlooking the roman romains and sea in an idyllic quiet historic setting -- I took Courage Best Bitter 4% treacle with tarmac, the squeeze of an old teabag and a hint of dettol, there'll be a reason I've neglected this in 30 years .. 🐷 scratchings .. I had 10 mins to drink up
Pub 3⭐ Beer 1🍺
Well, there it is, gargantuan road trip, pubs disappointing, beer mostly so so but I rate top pub Ship Centurion for character (heaving, I sat at bar by guitarist) only pub offering 3 ales
Top beer of the day Whitstable pale for being topical + London Pride for being a cracking good beer - I'm fond of the 1381 but it's way better on the marsh in South Kent ..
Fantastic day prompted by 🍺🍺🍺
