LA Community Car Care exists to facilitate the sharing of knowledge, tools, and abilities, to help foster a greater sense of community, and to ensure that our vehicles run as safely and efficiently as possible, for as long as possible. A safe, efficient long lasting car has both local and global positive effects on communities, from less car crashes, to less money being spent on repairs, to producing less pollution, and extending a vehicles life, reducing material consumption. We aim to equip our members with skills and confidence to assert control over part of their life, and free themselves from the exploitative, often misogynistic system of capitalist auto mechanics, who are known to exploit working people, immigrants and women with excessive mark ups or unnecessary repairs.
When you support LA Community Car Care your funds will be used in 3 main ways, they are:
-to expand our collection of communally used tools
-to pay for expendable items, things like grease, WD-40, brake fluid, transmission fluid, gaskets, car body clips, etc
-to fund open to the community free clinics, things like free brake light clinics, and possibly catalytic converter theft deterrence clinics. Having a brake light out is an open invitation for the police to pull you over, and having your catalytic converter stolen can cause missing work and cost a thousand dollars to replace. For around $5-$10 a car we can help our community avoid these situations.
