At it again - trash cleanup!

At it again - trash cleanup!

Jul 21, 2026

This time, a handful of intrepid volunteers joined me to rappel down a steep bank lined with heavy angular rock, to retrieve some intentionally-dumped garbage. Our best guess is that someone was building or renovating a demolition derby vehicle, based on the nature of the materials dumped: four pressurized pump-cannisters of foam insulation, a contractor bag stuffed with foul-smelling old insulation lining (such as would be used to dampen sound in the cockpit of a demo derby car), empty packages of hand tools, and several LARGE containers of motor oil (thankfully empty!). There were a couple of taillights and brake lights as well.

The Town of Cavendish accepted all the items, and one of the wonderful volunteers followed me to the transfer station to do all the unloading for me. Great to have that bank above Twentymile Stream once again trash-free...for now. Apparently this is a 'chronic dumping site' and the Town will be involving local law enforcement if it continues.

Betty did a fantastic job of hauling it all to the transfer station, with a little room to spare!
