I can’t believe it…literally 10 miles from the finish! Staying at a farm tonight and in the morning just 10 miles to go to complete the 192 miles Coast to Coast in 11 days, I can’t believe I’ve done it at all, let along done it so quick.
We stayed on the ground of services and then I had the longest hardest day of the whole walk. It was steep climbs through the forest, then out in the cold claggy air over the tops before 6 massive up and down steep climbs which were a good test.
After that I saw the long long long gravely and stoney roads through the Yorkshire Moors to the Lions Inn in Blakey Ridge. Not going to lie…this was the hardest slog. It went on and on and on and on and was freezing, windy and starting to spit. Literally never ending and my feet were so sore.
I eventually made it, god knows how (23 miles) and managed to get to the pub in the middle of nowhere and set my tent up before the worst weather came in. It battered it down.
That night I had a massive roast dinner (mixed meats) and a few pints and retired to my tent. That night it was really heavy rain and wind all night relentless. Luckily there was a window about 7:40am where it stopped and I could get the tent away.
Nice walk today but pushed AGAIN and did an 18 miler. Hilly at times and some steep long road sections towards the end. Now camped on a farm at the side of the house. I’ve had a cup of tea, slice of cake and had a shower and settled in for the night.
Last walk tomorrow and it’ll be a sad day as I hit the finish after 11 days with a short 10 mile, 3.5hr hike.
Once again thanks for all the beers on routes it’s really helped along the way as it’s been really tough. I can’t wait to get a beer or 3 at the end at the wainwrights bar to celebrate. It’s going to be bitter sweet as it’s been tough but I’m really going to miss this 🥹
I’m so overwhelmed with the support. Really surprising and a little overwhelming I have to say 🥹
