The Mystery of Godliness - God’s Redemptive Plan Through Jesus Christ. (1 Timothy 3:16)

Matthew 13:11 says, “He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given.”

There is this vast, impenetrable forest shrouded in mist. For generations, people have tried to navigate through it to catch glimpses of something wondrous beyond the trees but never fully understand it. Then, one day, the mist clears, and the path is illuminated, revealing a glorious landscape that had been hidden all along. This is the revelation of the Mystery of Godliness, the unveiling of God’s redemptive plan through Jesus Christ.

Paul writes in 1 Timothy 3:16, "Beyond all question, the mystery from which true godliness springs is great: He appeared in the flesh, was vindicated by the Spirit, was seen by angels, was preached among the nations, was believed on in the world, was taken up in glory." Paul outlines the core events of Jesus’ mission—His incarnation, life, death, resurrection, and ascension—each a vital piece of God’s salvation plan.

The incarnation, God taking on human flesh, is the ultimate act of love and humility. Jesus, the Son of God, stepped into our world, fully human and fully divine, to reveal God’s nature and to bridge the chasm between humanity and God. His life was a testament to God’s love and righteousness, showing us how to live in harmony with God’s will.

Jesus’ death on the cross was the pivotal moment in history. It was a sacrifice that paid the price for our sins, offering us forgiveness and reconciliation with God. His resurrection from the dead was the triumphant victory over sin and death, a promise of new life for all who believe. Finally, His ascension into heaven marked the completion of His earthly mission and the beginning of His reign at the right hand of God.

In this Mystery of Godliness, we see the fullness of God’s plan. Jesus is not just a teacher or a prophet; He is the Savior, the Redeemer, the King. Through Him, the kingdom of heaven is made accessible to all who believe. The veil is lifted, and the path to eternal life is revealed.

As you reflect on this mystery, ask yourself: How does the revelation of Jesus’ mission transform your understanding of godliness? How does it change the way you live your life?

The Apostle John offers a powerful reminder in his first letter: "This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters" (1 John 3:16). Understanding the Mystery of Godliness means embracing the selfless love and sacrifice that Jesus demonstrated. It means living a life of humility, service, and devotion, following in the footsteps of our Savior.

In this final part of the Mysteries of God’s Kingdom series, I want you to reflect on the significance of the Mystery of Godliness. The incarnation, life, death, resurrection, and ascension of Jesus are the foundation of our faith and the cornerstone of God’s redemptive plan.
