Japan is AMAZING! And . . . I am still learning.

Wonderful to be back in Japan again, working with clients and visiting friends and colleagues. I was able to hang out in Kyoto for a little while on my way from Tokyo to Osaka.

What has been most amazing for me on this trip?

  • the FOOD! Delicious!

  • the density of amazing restaurants, hotels, shops, and people.

the kindness of the people. When I was looking a bit lost several times I have been approached by wonderful Japanese people to ask if I needed help. They were so very friendly and kind! I so appreciate that kind of courtesy and hospitality.

AND . . . I have had some challenging interactions with other humans that I've been working with. I started to slip into my "victim" mentality, but fortunately today I listened to this book about the VICTIM - VILLAIN - HERO - GUIDE model. I was happy to be reminded that my identity is MY CHOICE, and I don't need to accept what other people project on me. I posted this today:

VICTIM? VILLAIN? HERO? GUIDE? Which role are YOU choosing for your life? MY ADVICE: Do NOT play the VICTIM! If you do, you will play the villain, too. "Hero on a Mission: A Path to a Meaningful Life by Donald Miller is a self-help book that uses storytelling principles to help readers find purpose by identifying their role in their own life's story—hero, victim, villain, or guide—and creating a practical plan for a more meaningful life. Miller draws on his own experiences to teach readers how to move from playing the victim to becoming the hero or guide, fostering clarity, motivation, and productivity." https://www.amazon.com/Hero-Mission-Path-Meaningful-Life/dp/1400226945

How about YOU? What's worth celebrating in your life? Where are you being tempted to slip into victim mode? And what might make it possible for you to crawl out of the icy couch of despair, reach for your goals and dreams, and take positive action to move towards those goals and dreams?

Last month I attended a "celebration of life" for a wonderful colleague I had the good fortune to work with over 20 years ago. He was an engineer, very brilliant tech guy. BUT . . . people talked about how kind he was, how loving, how helpful and sweet. WOW! May we all be remembered for those kinds of qualities!

Let's all help each other create a life worth celebrating! - Kimberly
