I've got a question for you. I want to get into fashion a bit more, but I was also raised in a home where clothing was fully utilitarian. If my brothers and I needed clothes for school, it always first went through my elder brothers before it reached me. That's one example, but there are many which I've noticed have led me to a point where I unconsciously believe that clothes beyond my basic needs are "luxurious".
I'm curious, what are your recommendations for thinking about clothes differently if you're coming from this standpoint? I imagine there are many South Africans who think like me since money is a big issue for a lot of us. With your historic and socio-economically look at fashion in SA, I'd love to hear your thoughts.
