Hey, it's me, the guy who always forgets to post about stuff because life is moving fast and sometimes I want to cry in a corner.
Anyway. Just wanted to post a quick update with what the hell I've been up to for the first half of this year. Remember that EOY post I made? Yeah, me neither. Well, I talked about refactoring the site. I actually made some decent progress on the API side before the scope blew way out of proportion. Then life got a little crazy, and I wasn't able to dedicate as much time to it.. so I came up with a new plan. Cry.
Just kidding, I cry while doing the dishes for maximum efficiency.
I've put a bit of a pause on on the scale of the refactor - I took a look at what small bits I can do to help improve the site before my five and two year old finally break my sanity. The answer I came up with was the automated bits that aren't so automated at the moment.
I've re-worked my data scraping army (... aka 6 JS files) to work more efficiently as a local browser extension. These bad boys pull in the raw streaming data from like Netflix, Crunchyroll, etc. and then I run it through a series of matching tests. The goal of this being more accurate streaming data on the site as well as keeping it more up to date as it's more automated than it was before.
I just pushed out Spring 2026 anime as well as a bunch of ones I missed and/or were suggested. That deployment included the new way I'm matching streaming data, so hopefully I didn't break anything (I've yet to find one, but you never know, there's 2333 entries now).
For next steps, I plan on taking a look at improving trailers - I have a weekly report that tells me when entries have broken videos, but I'm looking to be a little bit more proactive on it. So we'll see where that takes me.
A lot of words to say that I haven't done much but little improvements.
