Furn'art'ure

Dec 27, 2021

I've been busy over the past few months, new job, and a slight change in direction.

My art commissions dried up quicker than you could say "f☆ck" so for my mental health I started repainting furniture. Lots of work, small rewards. But I kept at it while the weather was good. I have to work outside.

But come September that changed. Ireland is not known for its sunny climate. So it was curtains for the upcycling furniture, or was it 🤔

My first and only love is fluid art, and I missed it so much. Some of my furniture pieces needed a lot of love, but I couldn't take my sander out (I couldn't take it out anyways because I burned the poor thing out) so I decided to combine the two.

I now pour on furniture that would surely end up in landfill because of their pretty noticeable imperfections. But with a layer of acrylic paints that come together to create such beautiful colours and results those imperfections disappear.

After successfully selling pieces, I decided to give a name to what I create. I've branded my pieces as Furn'art'ure which I think is a pretty awesome name.

I've even started adding hand drawn embellishments. It was scary at first, but I've grown in confidence.

So my journey with fluid art continues, I realised I was stuck, but the first step is being prepared to try something new, diversity is a game changer. By changing the goal posts and reaching for something new, I managed to save my sanity, come up with a new plan for my small business and also keep the ethos of recycling ♻️ and making some absolutely stunning art along the way.

If you've read this far I thank you for sticking with me till the end.
