This workbook focuses on the concepts of "big" and "small," and allows the student to practise comparing and sorting objects by size. The workbook uses familiar objects from everyday school life – a backpack, a lamp, a pencil, a basketball, a book, and headphones – that students can easily recognise.
The workbook consists of the following tasks:
"Circle the big one" – the student looks at pairs of objects and must circle the largest one.
"Circle the small one" – the same type of images, but here the student must circle the smallest object in each pair.
Tally-counting task – the student sees four images with several big and small objects, and must count how many there are of each size by making tally marks or writing numbers in the fields labelled "Big" and "Small."
Sorting task – the student must sort images into the categories "Big" and "Small" on a separate sorting sheet.
Finally, there is a cut-out sheet with pictures of the same objects. These can be cut out, laminated, and attached with Velcro, so that the sorting task can be used multiple times and made more concrete and tactile.
The workbook is well suited for the youngest students, as well as others who need to work with basic mathematical concepts such as size and comparison. It can be used individually or one-on-one, and is a concrete, hands-on exercise for students who need extra visual and tactile support.
