Dog Trainers---HEELING

Im not trying to be ugly or preachy ...

I see a lot of you teaching your dogs to heel and you are moving and the dog does not understand what is going on. You using food to lure the dog can actually work against you when its just willy nilly wingin it.

I share this because heeling with a dog requires certain parameters to get it right and keep the dog in the pocket.

1. He has to understand that what he is doing is a position that is moving and he has to maintain that position in space. His only way of knowing if he is there or not is by aligning himself with you.

Your heel starts out static to nail the position. The dog understands "right here" is where it needs to happen, ,STATIC. Its not a race to get from A -B ... its an exercise.

Once the dogs position is correct in a STATIC state. THEN and only then do you begin to move and at that one step at a time to reinforce for the dog to use your hips and leg as a guide.

I hope this makes sense to you ... it will improve your heeling very quickly. Go back get the static entry to heel and position get it down ... THEN begin to creep one step at a time.
