Cure for the CRATE HATER

Cure for the CRATE HATER

Jan 27, 2024

"my dog will not go in the crate no matter what."

sure he will. Take the door off put the crate in a small room like a closet or small bathroom. Place the dogs food in the back of the crate leave him alone and come back to check on him occasionally and let him out to relieve himself and give him some interaction and attention. Then put him back up in the small room.

It helps to start with some high value goodie on the normal food. This will help motivate the dog to push through and enter the crate. Once he has entered the crate on his own let him cycle in and out of the crate at will and the decision being his and always placing his food in the back.

Before long entering the crate is normalized to the dog. There is no conflict created using this method. It allows the dog to decide and this always makes for a better connection being made in the dog understanding the behavior.
