I'm bringing back this older artwork as a reminder to myself and to people around me that solidarity with disabled people, kids, frontline workers, elderly folk and carers does not end after lockdown.
The pandemic is still very much with us, with over 12,000 people in Australia dying from COVID-19 this year alone. This is an unacceptable figure and I feel hurt and disappointed by decision-makers passivity in the face of mass death and by the broader public's disregard for others in their community.
This is why we need to talk to each other and hold each other more accountable to make sure we're all keeping each other safe. It can be awkward and annoying but it is so important with thousands of new cases every day to wear a mask as much as possible and reconsider the types of events you're going to.
We all want to go back to 'normal' life, but that doesn't exist for many anymore. It's a privilege to pretend that nothing is wrong and go back to the way things were and, at the moment, this privilege is harming others.
This month, Buy Me A Coffee members will get a free download of the Solidarity Doesn't End After Lockdown artwork as well as a download for the artwork formatted as a phone wallpaper. If you're not already a member, please consider becoming one!
