This was the dilemma faced by a young friend of mine as we giggled our way through lunch at a local garden centre. She loves me and is enthusiastic about my vision of getting exciting, Jesus-filled stories out to younger children, but she really doesn't enjoy reading and isn't my ideal customer.
The more I consider this, and ponder the fact that my eldest son hasn't even read one of my books, I wonder if reading isn't becoming less of a hobby for adults. Are my readers mostly people who themselves are writers?
Anyway, I'm getting all philosophical! Sorry!
The reality is writing takes time and costs money. There are editors to pay, cover designers, printers, ISBN numbers, website and shop fees, not to mention an unhealthy amount of printer ink and paper. My book sales are still struggling to cover all these costs, so my time in creating my books must be squeezed in before and after my 'real' job.
Buying me a coffee lets me know that you enjoy my work, (or the vision - if you also don't like reading!) and want me to be able to spend more time doing that. These coffees allow me to dedicate a chunk of time to writing and hopefully produce more books quicker. I'm not short of ideas, just time!
