Spotlight on Four Coins From Different Eras

Sep 16, 2023

For this Blog I am going to do a Spotlight on 3 different coins from different eras. These have meaning to me because they were either collected by my Dad or by myself. Some of these are older and I am learning about these coins. And I am learning about the history such as who made it where it is made and why is it important. First I will discuss the 1916 D Barber Quarter

1916 D Barber Quarter

The 1916 Barber Quarter was designed and engraved by the Chief Engraver at the U.S. Mint at the time. His name was Charles E. Barber. This coin had a Liberty face in the front and the eagle in the back, according to Chat GPT.

It had the D mint mark on it as it was made in Denver, Colorado.

1916 was the last year of this set and this coin according to Chat GPT was rare for the set. This was during the WWI period and it was made in a time shortly before they were going to go to war. This coin is one for any collection.

1776-1976 Bicentennial Half Dollar and Quarter

These were not rare coins, but they were great for any collection for the collectors. This marked the 200th Anniversary of The Declaration of Independence.

According to Chat GPT word by word,

  1. Bicentennial Half Dollar (1776-1976 Half Dollar): This coin features a special reverse design depicting the Liberty Bell superimposed against the moon. On the obverse side, it retains the traditional portrait of Benjamin Franklin. The reverse design was created by Dennis R. Williams.

  2. Bicentennial Quarter (1776-1976 Quarter): Similar to the half dollar, the Bicentennial Quarter also features a special reverse design. It showcases a colonial drummer and a victory torch encircled by 13 stars to represent the original 13 colonies. The obverse side still bears the traditional image of George Washington.

Even though these might not be rare, the 40% Silver gives this some value for collectors.

The last coin I will discuss is the Sacagawea 2000 D Sacagawea One Dollar Coin

2000 D Sacagawea One Dollar Coin

This coin has many different variations and it can be worth a little to a lot. I know that Cheerios had one inserted into their Cheerios Box and that one is rare and worth a lot and also their are others are also worth more to. This coin is made of Copper and other materials to and also has a manganese-brass alloy in it to give it its Gold look according to Chat GPT.

This particular coin is the first in the set. It replaces the Susan B. Anthony coin which according to Chat GPT, started in 1979 to 1981 and briefly in 1999 before the went to the new series.

What makes this series unique besides it is the first of the series is that, "The 2000-D Sacagawea dollar coin is a United States one-dollar coin that was minted in the year 2000 at the Denver Mint. It features the image of Sacagawea, a Shoshone woman who accompanied the Lewis and Clark Expedition, along with her infant son, Jean Baptiste Charbonneau."

In Conclusion

Some of these coins have significance to it. from a collectors item, to the last of the series to the first. For any collector who love these U.S. Mints some of these are up there and collected as someone who collects Sports Cards. There is a market and these three coins are just a part of the story. From Liberty to where it is made it is good to know more about these coins especially if you are a collector.
