When we look at the life of Jesus, we see the purest example of love the world has ever known. He didn’t just say He loved us — He proved it through the greatest sacrifice in history. Jesus willingly gave His life so that we could have ours. That is love in its realest form.
“Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” — John 15:13
And if Jesus showed love through sacrifice, then we’re called to do the same. Not always in dramatic ways, but in the everyday choices we make.
To grow closer to God, we have to be willing to lay some things down. Old habits, unhealthy mindsets, distractions, temptations — anything that pulls our hearts away from Him. Sacrifice isn’t easy, but it’s part of spiritual maturity. It’s part of choosing who we want to become in Christ.
“Therefore, I urge you… to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.” — Romans 12:1
And when it comes to our families — especially our children — love requires sacrifice there too. We can’t hold on to the life we once had and expect to be the parents God calls us to be. Sometimes that means giving up certain freedoms, late nights, old routines, or selfish desires so we can build a stable, loving, Christ-centered home.
But the beautiful thing is this: every sacrifice we make out of love brings blessing. It shapes us. It strengthens us, and it strengthens our loved ones around us. In the end, it draws us closer to God’s heart.
“Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.” — Luke 9:23
Love isn’t just a feeling — it’s a choice.
A commitment.
A sacrifice.
And when we offer that kind of love, we reflect Jesus more than we realize.
