RIP, Miles!
Imagine my surprise while searching my spam folder when I found an email sent by Miles nearly a week ago announcing they were immediately shutting down. If you're unfamiliar with Miles, it was a pretty nifty app that rewarded members for driving, biking, and walking. It was an incredibly easy way to earn gift cards and in its heyday, also offered incredible referral rewards bonuses (such as "refer 4, get $100").
While I was surprised that I didn't see the email, this wasn't unexpected. I've watched Miles go downhill over the past few years. First, the signup and referral bonuses lowered to just a few dollars, and worse, it became incredibly difficult to cash out earnings as they restricted gift card availability and limited how much - and how often - you could redeem.
Like other once-great apps that similarly went downhill before shutting down - Drop, Bitmo, etc. - I will miss the good times using and referring to Miles. Hopefully, we'll continue to see more apps like it soon. RIP, Miles!

I Scored Another $200 Today [US]!
One of the best things I did recently was sign up for Citi. There was no signup bonus, but there's a referral promotion (still running) that gets you $100 for each person who signs up through your link. There's no deposit OR spend requirement. I received another $200 this morning, bringing the total to $1,200 in the past 30 days! A huge "THANK YOU" if you signed up using my link and best of luck as you refer it!
If you haven't signed up yet and want to earn up to $2,000 in referral bonuses, simply use a referral link and open a Citibank Checking account. Choose the version that says, "Earn $325..." You don't need to fund the account and can skip that screen when asked. Once you've done this, keep an eye out for your referral link, which is sent by email in 1-4 weeks. The subject line will, "[Your name], earn up to $2,000 on qualified referrals!"
While there's no signup bonus and there's no deposit requirement, you can earn an additional $325 bonus from Citi by receiving two or more deposits within 90 calendar days of account opening, totaling $3,000 or more. Qualifying deposits include recurring paychecks, pension, Social Security payments, and PayPal, Venmo, and Zelle transfers! You can use your Zelle/PayPal/Venmo account to send funds to your Citi account. In the case of PayPal, you'll want to ensure you're using ACH transfer.

Imagine my surprise this morning when I opened my Chime app and was welcomed with a $100 bonus offer ending in two days! I'm unsure why I got this offer, as I've been a Chime member for several years. But I'm not complaining!
If you have Chime, check your app to see if you also got this offer. I assume it's targeted (YMMV). If you have the offer, activate it before it expires. Once activated, you must make a qualifying ACH deposit (either through your employer or an external ACH transfer from Chase Bank, for instance).

Scrambly's Login and Withdrawal Issues During Maintenance!
If you're a Scrambly member and have been having problems logging in, staying logged in, and/or withdrawing, you're not alone. The Silent Struggles of a Referral Marketer (Continued)!
In last week's RWN, I discussed some of the many struggles we face as referral marketers. One of the topics described "good apps until they weren't." I don't know why, but a handful of companies have decided to be sketchy these past few months.
In the article, I talked about Grifin and their secretly-imposed $1K lifetime earnings cap, which they buried in the terms two levels deeps while still marketing to ineligible referrers as if they can still refer. Since last week, I contacted them again, urging them to fix this deceptive marketing practice, but my emails have been ignored.
I also discussed how Abound returned "from the dead" (they were previously Times Club) and stiffed me and several other members by flagging our accounts instead of paying us owed bonuses. Based on my communications with Abound over the past few months, I can confidently say that they are a complete joke.
Two more companies can be added to the list: High Rewards and Hot Takes.
High Rewards is a niche cashback site offering a $5 signup and referral bonuses. While the bonuses are instant, withdrawal is supposed to take up to 5 days, but the company hasn't been paying members, and has been ignoring emails. Some people have been paid after leaving a bad review (or threatening to). This probably explains why Shawn, CEO of High Rewards, offered members 1,000 points ($1 value) to leave 5-star reviews for them. I'm not sure what good 1,000 points would do for members since the company isn't actually paying out. I was finally paid $30 a couple of weeks back, but that was after harassing them for a few weeks. I'm still waiting on $270 in owed Amazon gift cards.
Hot Takes was a fantastic earnings opportunity with instant signup and referral bonuses. And the app is quite enjoyable (I use it every day). That said, the company made multiple revisions to both their referral and their cashout program. Currently, we're only able to withdraw $20 max, and there's a multi-tiered level-up system where you can cash out more when you reach certain levels. At the rate the app awards EXP points - which is how we level up - it will take years (plural) for me to withdraw the $148 in bonuses.
Thankfully, most apps DO pay out as expected, and I hope the companies listed above take notes from companies like MoneyLion, ShopBack, or any of the 100+ apps I refer who value their members.
