Certification — How to Prepare for Google Cloud — Professional Google Workspace Administra

Feb 02, 2024

About me — I am multi-cloud certified Cloud Architect; current work assignments are focused on Google Cloud platform. Past 18 months I wrote 17+ cloud certification and recently passed GCP - Professional Google Workspace Administrator certification.

Target audience for this exam?

If you are interested in becoming a Google Workspace Administrator or are currently working as a Google Workspace Administrator and want to improve your skills and credentials, then taking the exam may be a good idea. The Google Cloud Professional Workspace Administrator certification is a widely recognized and respected credential that demonstrates your expertise in managing and deploying Google Workspace.

However, if you are not interested in becoming a Google Workspace Administrator or do not have a need for the skills and knowledge tested in the exam, then taking the exam may not be necessary.

Ultimately, the decision to take the Google Workspace Administrators exam should be based on your personal career goals and the requirements of your job. If you are unsure whether taking the exam is right for you, you may want to consider speaking with a career counselor or your employer for guidance.

Role and Responsibilities of Workspace Administrator?

It may vary depending on the size and needs of the organization, but generally, they include:

  1. Setting up and managing users: This includes creating user accounts, assigning roles and permissions, and managing user access to various Google Workspace services.

  2. Managing domains: This includes setting up and configuring domains, as well as managing domain-level settings such as email routing and group sharing.

  3. Data migration: This includes importing and exporting data from different systems, as well as managing user data within Google Workspace.

  4. Troubleshooting and support: This includes resolving technical issues, answering user questions, and providing user training and support.

  5. Security and compliance: This include managing security settings and ensuring that the organization is compliant with any relevant laws and regulations.

  6. Project management: This may include managing Google Workspace deployment projects and ensuring that they are completed on time and within budget.

In addition to these specific responsibilities, Google Workspace Administrators should also be familiar with Google Workspace best practices and have a strong understanding of the product and how it can be used to meet the needs of the organization.

2.3 Google Workspace documentation:
The Google Workspace documentation is a comprehensive resource that covers all aspects of Google Workspace. It includes detailed instructions on how to set up and manage users, domains, and data migration, as well as how to troubleshoot and support users. You can find the Google Workspace documentation here: https://gsuite.google.com/support/

It is highly recommended or would say mandatory to go thru these curated here (jitu028/gcp-workspace-administrator) required to pass this exam. These links are from notes I prepared for the exam.

Step# 3 — Practicing the practice test

Practice tests from Whizlabs — https://www.whizlabs.com/learn/course/professional-workspace-administrator

Step# 4 — Scheduling the exam

I prepared for this certification for about 2 months, still didn’t feel fully prepared. There are a lot many settings, configurations, alerts, rulesets to remember as it works differently for each type of subscriptions plans — Business starter, Business standard, Business plus and Enterprise. check the plans here — Google Workspace (Formerly G Suite): Pricing Plans.

After preparing from practice test a few times, I scheduled the exam and took remote proctored exam at 5:30 AM. For this exam I suggest schedule your exam when you are confident and consistently scoring 75% in practice tests.
