Parting at the City’s Edge

Parting at the City’s Edge

Drifting clouds mirror the traveler’s restless heart;

the setting sun holds the old friend’s lingering warmth.

With a wave of the hand, from this place we go our separate ways—

the horses whinny softly, their thin calls drifting through the autumn air.

浮云游子意,落日故人情。

挥手自兹去,萧萧班马鸣。

~ Li Bai (李白, 701–762), Tang dynasty poet, from Seeing Off a Friend (《送友人》)
