I Think My Camera Is Teaching Me Composition

You’ve probably heard about composition rules like the Golden Ratio, the Rule of Thirds, and I think there’s another one that’s very similar to the Golden Ratio. I can’t remember the name right now.

Out of all of them, I use the Rule of Thirds the most. Mostly because it’s the easiest one to understand.

It’s just a simple three-by-three grid. If you place your subject near one of the intersection points instead of right in the middle, the composition often looks much more interesting.

I use it all the time when I’m taking photos.

The reason is simple. My camera actually shows me the grid while I’m shooting, so it’s easy to think about where I place my subject (You can turn on the grid in settings on your phone and/or camera). If I’m photographing something like a flower, I usually place it near one of the lower intersections. That way I still get some of the background in the photo, and I just like how it looks....
