Hi! This month has pretty much flown by with a visit to my Mum in Ireland for her 70th birthday, catching up when I returned (and recovering from such a busy time when life has been much slower) and now preparing for the Arches Open Studios 2021 this weekend 25-26 September.
I’m using the project space in arch 7.5 to create an interactive installation of the Oracle of Gender Designation - a kind of walk-in sketchbook with space for you to write in the margins.
A topic like gender is a big one, and it feels like a piece that needs interaction not just when finished, but through the creation process. Because the idea came to me in lockdown, everything I’ve done so far has (like so much of our lives this past 18 months) been virtual. It feels important to have people walk in and interact with the idea.
I’ll also open up my studio space and will be running a drop-in workshop on the Sunday with my good friend and fellow artist Dave Hubble, so I’m looking forward to that.
