Love Letter to My Body

Love Letter to My Body

Feb 15, 2023

Happy belated Love day to you, & your loved ones. I'd like to take a moment to thank my body, for it changes with the seasons, the motions of the day. It changes for protection, and for function. To my body- I'm sorry I haven't treated you with the same love that I show others. That I speak ill of you. I tug at you, I scratch at the pieces I want to be rid of. I would never do this to another, so why do I do it to you?

We've been taught so many things about our bodies, to hate them, to constantly pick them apart. Too big. Too small. Too wrinkly. Too dull.

Add chronic pain and illness, you want somewhere to place the blame. How can you love something that causes you so much anguish daily...

Body- I love you. Your tummy is CUTE. The bags under your eyes are baggage you carry daily, it is not a weakness. It is not ugly. The wrinkles by your eyes are a sign of all the laughter you have experienced. All the smiles your face has worn. Your tired feet are because of your ongoing journey. Your spine and your pelvis holds on to the trauma that your mind has not yet processed.

Body, you are in pain for reasons you have no control over. The least I can do is be gentle and caring to you and how I speak to you. I am sorry for the terrible things I have said to you.

...

Spend more time with your body. One on one. Find time to caress the parts that you don't show love to. Make eye contact with yourself. Connect on a different level. Connect with your inner child. Would you ever say these things to them? I'd imagine not. Do it for her, him, them.

..

Thank you again to Tess Harvey for the photos from this day.

PS: I still have space for a very natural, on-location session on March 17 @ 4pm. Email [email protected] or visit my website to book.
