How Stoke-on-Trent’s Six Towns Shaped the City’s Coat of Arms

Mar 14, 2025

🏺 Did you know that each of our six towns has its own coat of arms? 🏺

Burslem, Fenton, Tunstall, Stoke, Longton, and Hanley - each has a unique crest packed with history and meaning!

🔹 A Portland Vase, a Stafford Knot, a soaring eagle, even a camel! 🐪
🔹 Symbols of pottery, industry, and civic pride - but also powerful family connections.
🔹 Noble families like the Audleys, Sneyds, Heathcotes, and Copelands left their mark on our town crests.
🔹 And when the towns united in 1910, their emblems combined into one official city coat of arms!

But there’s so much more to the story - hidden meanings, historical figures, and how these arms shaped our city’s identity.
