Preparing to Travel

Preparing to Travel

Mar 10, 2021

I'm caregiving Mom. Having been doing so for coming up on 11 years, in June. And I don't mind, this labor of love. Who gets to look after their own 91-year old mom? Not everybody, so I don't take it for granted. But, at the same time, I'm realistic. I know Mom's not going to live forever, neither am I, for that matter.

Real talk, Mom can live on for another 20 or 30 years, under my care. I don't mind. Is it a challenge? Sure, but definitely bearable, especially because of WHO it is that this labor of love is being geared toward. And again, I'm being realistic. Hoping for the best, more time with Mom. Much more, but also preparing.... just in case, so I don't get "caught out there."

I have come to many realizations, particularly with regard to who's in my corner, who my tribe and village are. Certainly NOT some of the people I thought it would be, and definitely pleasantly surprised by others. And at the same time, I have to see where I can be more of a supporting role in the lives of others, not just being a guppy, or recipient, not being just a taker. Making sure I'm not all about me, and self-consumption. What am I giving? And to whom? Is there an exchange? (Just thinking out loud, free flow writing)

Regardless, I am preparing for life in upcoming phases, at some point in my future. As God spares my life, I will travel. My game plan is to start in the states, and venture down to Mexico. Lake Chapala and Ajijic. I plan on doing a hybrid of travel via vehicles, with sublimation equipment in tow and some flight travel. But, I'm not quite ready for take-off. There are quite a number of things I must do.

Gotta get my dollar weight up, plus I've got to de-clutter. Gotta minimalize, substantially. Not altogether but I have to lighten the load, substantially. But, I'm here on LI, preparing to travel.
