國泰環球票小幫手開放公測 Oneworld "Round-the-world" Ticket Planner in open beta

Hey y'all! It's been a while, hasn't it? I'm sure by now you've all heard about the massive Asia Miles devaluations coming our way. The new award pricing takes effect on October 1st, and increases award pricing by as much as 30% for long-haul premium awards. If you have a significant amount of Asia Miles on hand, now is the time to make the best use of them!

One of the best values for AM has always been the oneworld multi-carrier award, otherwise known as the round the world ticket. It allows up to 10 segments, for a total distance not exceeding 50,000 miles, and allows 5 stopovers (stop of over 24 hours), 2 transfers (stop of less than 24 hours), and 2 openjaws (departing from a city different than the one you landed in). The remaining rules are surprisingly lax.

For example, this is a valid itinerary:
Taipei-Tokyo-Taipei / Taipei-Seoul-Taipei / Taipei-Kuala Lumpur,Bali-Hong Kong-Taipei / Taipei-Osaka,Hokkaido-Tokyo-Taipei

That's 4 round trip Asia flights, and it will only set you back 90K mi in Economy, 135K mi in business, or 220K miles in First! (Come October, prices for this itinerary will become 95K mi / 170K mi / 250K mi)

In the past, designing a RTW itinerary has been a pretty daunting task, which used to entail a convoluted mess of spreadsheets and a combination of hopping between sites like google flights, flightconnections.com, or flightsfrom.com to find available routes, then popping over to gcmap.com to map out all the distances, then adding all the distances to determine what distance category you fall into, trying to find alternative flights to fit into particular distance categories, and then finding out that the flight you wanted doesn't even offer the class you want.

I've made a new tool that makes the process of finding valid routes simpler. Here are some of the main things you can do easily research with this tool:

3. Route distances
4. Class options by route and carrier
5. Carrier combination validation
6. Stopover, transfer, openjaw combination validation
7. Distance category calculation (based on current and new award pricing)

在過去,要設計一個環球票行程是一項頗具挑戰的任務,需要用一大試算表做記錄,並在 Google Flights、flightconnections.com 或 flightsfrom.com 等網站之間跳來跳去尋找可用的路線,然後到gcmap.com 上查距離,再將所有距離相加找級距,尋找到符合特定級距替代航班,最後可能還發現所需的航班根本沒有你要的艙等。
