Exclusive Chapter 6: Seth

Exclusive Chapter 6: Seth

Sep 27, 2022

Seth.

For the first time in many years, I was feeling lost.

There were hundreds of wolves in the hall but it felt as if I was trapped in an empty room staring at the one thing I couldn't have, the one thing that was far away from me.

It was the worst form of torture, nothing compared to the endless pain I had suffered. The betrayals, abandonment and the nightmares that haunted me at night.

It was like giving water to someone lost in the desert and just when the drop is about to touch their lips, it's snatched away cruelly and taken far off within their reach.

But mine wasn't a bottle of water, it was a beautiful she wolf who stood a few distance away from me.

Isabel was the most beautiful wolf in the room. It wasn't the whole new makeover she had done, nor the gorgeous dress she wore compared to the baggy anime themed shirts she wore, and big nerdy glasses that covered her eyes.

It wasn't any of that.

Instead it was the way she seemed to want to run away from the crowd around her, the way she held her hand around herself as she looked around with nervous eyes.

There was something about watching her feel so uncomfortable that appeared so cute like a cat who was trying to join its kind.

And I watched her from the side of the room ,a bit relieved that Raya and the others had gone to chat with other wolves.

I wanted her to be in my line of vision. Her eyes wandering around so it would fall on me.

Not like I would do anything, I'll probably ignore her. But I didn't want her attention on anything else.

It was possessive and sick, but I wanted Isabel to see only me in the room. Just as I saw hers.

Her hand ran down her arms as if she was cold and I frowned, looking down at my jacket and started to take it off when I looked up to see another male heading towards her before stopping by her side.

My eyes narrowed as all my senses heightened as I strained my hearing in their direction.

The male was one of the scouts. Drew was around my age, a few years younger but shared the same height as I did. He was strong and powerful. I had sparred with him once and while I had won, it wasn't exactly easy.

And seeing him smile at Isabel whose eyes widened at someone approaching her for the first time tonight sent my blood boiling in my veins.

"Hi, I'm Drew. Is it creepy that I've been watching you from across the hall?" He asked and I frowned as Isabel tucked a strand of her blonde hair behind her ear.

"Uhm. A tiny bit. As far as you're not thinking of kidnapping me and killing me in the woods. I guess it's fine." She said nervously as Drew chuckled and shook his head.

"No way I'll do that. Just admiring how beautiful you are, that's all." He said and I watched as Isabel's cheeks pinkened as she looked away shyly.

"Thanks." She muttered. "I don't usually look like this. You'll be disappointed if you see me some other day." She said,

"I don't think so. I heard makeup has a way of shielding the true natural beauty. And if you can still manage to look this gorgeous, I can only imagine how breathtaking you'll look with them off." Drew flirted, his eyes not leaving Isabel for a second.

And that made me angry as a wave of jealousy hit me when Isabel chuckled and batted her eyelashes unconsciously.

"Thank you. I'm Isabel by the way." She said as she raised her hand to meet Drew's halfway. The way he squeezed her palm a little tighter and rubbed his thumb against hers caused a low growl to leave my lips.

A few wolves turned to me as I suddenly felt the urge to storm towards them and rip Drew apart from her before tearing him to shreds.

"Wanna go outside? It's a bit cold here." He asked as Isabel nodded before he took her hand and led her outside the hall.

I followed, staying away from their line of vision as they reached the garden outside and Isabel sighed.

"I'm not used to large gatherings like this one." Isabel muttered as Drew laughed softly.

"Same here. I'd rather just be at home and read a book or something when I'm not working." He said and Isabel's eyes lit up as she looked at him, sending a dark chill of jealousy down my spine.

"Oh, what kind of books do you read?" She asked and Drew looked down at her, a smile on his face at having caught her attention.

"Mostly Greek mythology, Norse mythology and Egyptian mythology. I'm a huge fan of myths and legends."

"Me too! Though I enjoy reading Greek mythology mostly!" Isabel beamed.

"Really? Who's your favorite Greek god?"

"Hades."

"Me too!" Drew exclaimed as he continued. "He's easily misunderstood as evil because he rules the Underworld but he's actually one of the most lenient gods."

"Exactly! I've been explaining that for ages!" Isabel said as they both burst out in laughter and I felt my fist clench as I gritted my teeth together at seeing Isabel so comfortable and happy with Drew.

The laughter died down and they stared at each other for a second. It wasn't the way Drew looked at Isabel like she was the last piece of steak on the plate. Nor the way his eyes traveled down her lips when she spoke eagerly.

Rather, it was the way Isabel looked up at him. Like something out of the books she read, someone who shared the same likes as her, someone she could talk to and be with.

She stared at him in awe, like he was everything I was not.

And that angered me. The thought of having someone else hold her hand, talk to her about the stupid books they both found fascinating, hold her eyes with so much admiration.

Without another thought, I stepped towards them, crossing the garden just as Isabel's eyes widened at the sight of me.

"S..Seth?" She asked as Drew turned to face me, his eyes widening slightly but I wasted no time in letting him speak as I threw my fist back and hit him across the face.

"Seth! What the hell is wrong with you?!" Isabel screamed as I reached for Drew who staggered backwards but Isabel was holding me with surprising enough strength making me freeze in my tracks.

"Go back to your post. You're still on duty tonight." I growled at Drew who stood straight, spitting out blood from his lips as he ticked his jaw and sent me a silent glare.

"Yes, Beta." He responded before he started to walk away and Isabel left my arm and I felt a sudden cold wash over me at her hands leaving me.

"Drew! Wait? Are you ok?" She said as he stopped in his tracks not turning to her.

"I would be." He said before he vanished back into the crowd. I felt Isabel's anger brewing and when she turned to me those eyes flared with hatred directed towards me and I felt a piece of me break at having her look at me so much differently than when they had been filled with love and admiration.

"What the hell is wrong with you?! Why can't you just let me fucking be?!" She started to shout as her eyes glittered with tears and I mentally scolded myself for letting my anger get the best of me.

"You don't like me! You completely hate my existence! And when I finally decide to move on to find someone who would accept me, who would mend the broken heart you left me with. You come with that temper of yours, destroying everything in your path and not caring that you're once more hurting someone else." Isabel spat, tears streaming down her face as she looked at me before sighing in frustration.

"Of course. You have nothing to say. No apology or whatever, because that's just the kind of person you are. You're cruel, apathetic, heartless and wicked to the core and it hurts me that you still feel the same way towards people who care about you.

And for the first time Seth. I truly wish I didn't have you as my mate. I've been so blind to actions, covering your hate with maybe he's just too scared to love me. Maybe he has a past preventing him from accepting the love I have for him.

But I'm fine making excuses for you Seth. I'm done following you around like a lost puppy. I'm done giving you my heart so that you could shatter it beyond repair. I'm done loving you." Isabel finished as sudden feeling overwhelmed me.

It was like someone was ripping my heart from my chest, throwing it on the floor, stepping on it and squeezing out what little life remained in it.

I watched Isabel, unable to speak, unable to move. Frozen in shock at her words, her anger and the hatred that wafted off her in waves.

"I don't hate you." I managed to whisper as she rolled her eyes and shook her head.

"Of course you do. Your actions speak louder, Seth. They always have. And I've finally gotten the message. I'll find Drew, apologize to him and maybe ask for his number so I can keep up with the one person who spared me a glance tonight." She said before turning away from me and wiping her eyes as I watched her leave, unable to do anything.

I was an idiot!

I was such an idiot!

Why are you letting her go? Why are you accepting this?

I fisted my palm as I growled at the unexplainable pain that filled me.

I stared at Isabel as she found Drew at the side of the building, her nervous laugh that escaped her lips as Drew smiled.

Looking away, I forced myself to shift despite the full moon not being out.

I guess it was best I stayed away from Isabel.

I didn't need any distractions.

I guess that's the end for Isabel and Seth. Or is it? Find out more in the coming exclusive chapters. Season 2 of The Alpha's Broken Slave would be starting tomorrow.
