SMLIAG Chapter 91 - A Resolution

SMLIAG Chapter 91 - A Resolution

May 18, 2024

Rosa and Aphra stayed in an empty room in the elder's house until nightfall.

It wasn't until the middle of the night that they crept out.

The skeletons that they had brought with them began to slowly appear.

"Are you sure you don't need help?"

Alex, the elder's son, volunteered to help as if he was worried.

While she appreciated the sentiment, it would be easier for them to do it on their own.

So, she shook her head.

"No, we'll do it on our own. Just watching is enough."

“……Yes. I understand."

At last, Alex stepped back.

Now they could enter the carriage to unload the supplies comfortably.

Rosa went inside and immediately gave orders to the skeletons.

She spoke quietly so that the people outside couldn’t hear.

"Keep going around town with the torches made of sebo.”

Then she came out.

She made eye contact with Aphra, who was waiting outside the carriage.

Aphra, who knew what he had to do, quickly began to make a torch with the sebo.

"I'll keep making them for you, so just carry them around."

His hands did not stop moving, but he continued speaking.

"If the torches start to burn out, come and take another one, keep doing that until the torches run out."

"Understood."

She wasn’t surprised because she’d already heard this from Aphra.

Her legs were going to be really sore today.

That's all she could think of. It would take four to five hours of walking to burn all the sebo they brought.

"Rosa, here’s one."

"Then I'll get started."

Since it was a torch made by tightly tying sebo together, the scent of mint kept wafting out.

The minty scent from the burning sebo was harmless to people.

But it was different for philos.

When they came in contact with the scent, it had the same effect as poison on the philos.

"What? Is that a fire?"

"A fire!?"

"Huh? What's this smell?"

Perhaps because they carried the torches through the villages, people began to come out of their houses one by one.

However, every time they ran into her, they were startled.

Well, anyone would be surprised to see someone dressed all in purple going around at night.

Fortunately, her face wasn’t recognized because of the veil.

That's why she continued wandering through the village without worry.

"Oh? Mom! Something fell!"

Was the smoke’s effect showing already?

It wasn’t many, but one or two fell from trees or houses.

And because of the child pointing it out, more and more of the villagers became interested.

"What's this?"

"It’s a torch made from the sebo plant. The smoke is used to kill bugs."

"Can I have a torch, too?"

"Me too!"

Suddenly people clung to her.

Even though they were starving, the eyes of those who had begun to see hope had changed dramatically.

She pointed quietly in one direction, where the skeletons in armor were coming out with torches.

And she said,

"Go over there and there'll be a carriage with the words 'Courier' printed on it. You can get them from there."

She added unnecessary words to make people aware of the delivery service.

"Over there?"

"Yes, the carriage that says ‘courier’."

She once again pointed in the same direction.

Then, they rushed out. This time, everyone ran in the direction she had pointed.

***

The dim light of dawn could be seen.

She was sure was still late, but she finished earlier than she’d expected.

Because she and Aphra thought they would only finish after the morning sun came up.

This early finish was thanks to the villagers.

"Oh my god."

"It's finally over!"

Countless worm corpses were dead on the ground, but people didn't care.

They simply stepped on them and were busy hugging each other and crying.

They watched the scene and began to reload the luggage they had brought.

Now their role was over.

Believing that the villagers would clean up the rest, she had to return to the duke's castle.

Of course, before leaving, she prepared a gift for them.

One of the three carriages was filled with food instead of sebo.

She called Aphra.

"Aphra."

At her call, Aphra opened the tightly packed carriage.

Rosa then tapped the skeletons one by one and gave her orders.

"Unload."

Several bags of potato-like food and seeds, which had been loaded on the carriage, were unloaded onto the ground.

As a result, people stopped crying and blankly stared at them.

Rosa had to put on a performance starting now.

She tried to relax as much as she could by swallowing her saliva.

Then, she said thank you to Aphra.

"Thank you. Thank you for listening to my request until the end...….”

"No, it's nothing."

"Still, as a courier, you’re only supposed to deliver goods, but please wait until my work is over...….”

"This is a special service because you’re our first customer."

Aphra used a very gentlemanly tone to look like a businessman.

Rosa tried to hold back her laughter.

Then she quickly turned around and saw the villagers frozen except for their wildly moving eyes.

"I can't give you anything expensive, but this will last you until the saint comes. And these are cheap seeds, but it should be enough to grow food."

"Uh, why...….”

On behalf of the bedridden elder, Alex, who came out to see them off, looked overwhelmed.

Rosa put her hands together.

She didn’t plan for it but, just in time, the early morning breeze came.

The purple veil and the end of her dress began to blow in the wind.

And she told him,

"I said I was here to help you from the beginning. That was the sincere truth."

‘If you ask me more questions, I’ll be in trouble.’

If they asked why she’d come to help, what her name was, how she came to know about this, etc., it was clear that her words could be twisted.

She only planned to help them this much anyway. They should be able to handle the rest on their own.

She quickly got into the wagon.

Again, she didn't forget to speak loud enough for them to hear as she told Aphra,

"I’m so thankful for this transportation service that even ordinary people like me can use. Thanks to this courier, I was able to finish my work safely."

"Thank you for saying that. Let’s leave now."

As the play-like words came and went, she could feel the carriage creeping.

‘Now they won't be able to ask me questions as the carriage starts moving properly.’

That's why she didn't miss her opportunity to leave as she left her last words to the villagers.

"When the saint comes, ask for better seeds. As the daughter of Rouge, she will gladly give you everything she has."

The seeds Rosa gave them were cheap. Just basic plants to grow to temporarily provide them with food.

More expensive seeds were needed to provide a source of income from harvests in the future.

If that was done, there was nothing left for Rosa to do. Yura would take care of the expensive things.

According to the novel, the people who bring Yura are the people of the Holy Land, so money will be given out of their wallets.

"Thank you!"

"I won't forget this grace!"

Even as the carriage departed, some people ran with it and shouted loudly.

They were people who were all skin and bones and stumbling about. They were running after the carriage like that for Rosa.

It was a great send-off.

In fact, this all started because Theodore's reputation was falling, and she didn’t want him to suffer.

Then the goal gradually changed.

If she let things follow the plot of the novel, things would always be resolved only after a few extras die...….

She didn’t want that.

Extras were people, just like her.

And, after helping...….

"It’s rewarding.”

Even though the process was hard, people's smiles and tears made her feel full.

***

Estella Castle without Rosenta.

It was very quiet and peaceful there, except for Enoch.

Enoch's expressions gradually disappeared as Rosenta disappeared. Sometimes he was like a doll, which was creepy.

This was after only one day.

And the dawn of the day of Rosenta’s return, Enoch left the castle.

‘Caw.’

He transformed into a crow.

Enoch kept flying, stopping in front of a man in a back alley.

The man had pink hair and eyes, and he was wearing goggles on his head.

"Wo-, Wolf?"

As if to answer the question, Enoch folded his wings and released his crow transformation.

After seeing Enoch's high-level magic, Lysander was so excited, he couldn’t breathe.

Of course, he didn't forget to ask about the reason for calling him.

"Why did you...….”

In fact, before leaving for the Magic Tower, Lysander secretly gave Enoch a magical tool for communication.

He hadn’t heard from him at all but suddenly got a call from Enoch for the first time yesterday.

For him, Lysander was able to accept any request, run away from any client, and come all the way here.

"Is there anything you need me to do?"

Enoch's casual light green eyes scanned Lysander up and down.

They seemed to be measuring his ability.

Enoch's eyes shook Lysander.

"I need you to help me with my work."

"I'll help you with anything."

"If you guide me well and tell me all about them...….”

Enoch stopped talking and fiddled with his pinky nail. Without hesitation, he pulled it out.

Even though the blood was flowing down, he didn't blink an eye.

But he didn't laugh either.

He just looked at the fingernail bed’s exposed flesh.

"Now, I’m not even able to feel much of this either."

It was a voice without any emotion.

Enoch looked up.

He held out his pulled-out fingernail towards Lysander, whose face was now flushed.

"Let's consider this as a commission fee."

"Oh, you don't have to give that to me...….”

Contrary to what he said, Lysander took Enoch’s nail.

Then, he smiled very snobbishly and leaned towards Enoch.

"What would you like, Mr. Wolf?"

"Magic Tower."

Lysander was puzzled by the words "Magic Tower" that had come out of nowhere.

But when he looked into Enoch’s sharp, pale green eyes, he knew that he meant everything he said.

"I'm going to destroy that annoying Magic Tower."
