To all my BMC fans, look at how nice they look together - the old and the new pair. Thank you again for making me reach my first goal quickly! Now, what did I get with your donations here?
Well, you know me. Nothing out of the ordinary here.
Sennheiser HD280 Pro VS Sennheiser HD280 Pro?
The simple answer would be - I got the same headphones. A newer design maybe, but the differences are expected to be minor. I've spent almost two hours today listening to some of my favorite music.
However, it was all inside a DAW, where I immediately heard them through the Sonarworks Reference software I've already talked about a few weeks back. Flat response right from the start.
So, here are a few quick thoughts after I've spent a short time with the new model of (the same pair) Sennheiser HD280 Pro's.
1. Design Upgrade
Much more comfortable - the pads are slightly smaller, but thicker. The added pillow rest on top of the head is a huge plus. The new logo is also cool, but I would like it to have just a bit more bling to it. You know, shiny things that would glow on your ears.
2. Definitely NOT The Same Sound
I'm definitely deep into analyzing audio, that's why I like mixing so much. I've used the previous set of headphones for almost everything - recording, mixing, editing, and of course, to use with my POD GO. I plan to do the absolute exact same with the new pair.
With that said, and maybe it's probably due to worn-out drivers on the old pair, the headphones that arrived just today sound a bit more focused. Definitely not hyped in the 8-10 kHz region as the previous version, and slightly more pleasant with the bass response - less oomphy around 50-70 Hz, and definitely more weight in the sub 40 Hz region.
3. Don't Fix If It Ain't Broken!
Anyway, I'm super happy. The sound is definitely similar, and feel like a bought a new pair of shoes, but the model is the same as the last choice. That's why I have a closet full of official studio wear - black t-shirts. Both fit.
Plus, if I got anything else than this I would spend weeks figuring out the differences, which is a rabbit hole I will not travel.
Thanks again for supporting me here,
Ivan
