Sarzhyn Yar

Sarzhyn Yar.

This is a deep overgrown coast with a length of 12 km, which is not flooded in high water and separates two districts of Kharkiv. But it is customary to call Sarzhyn Yar exactly the recreation area, in the center of which the lake is located.

Long before the foundation of the park itself, a Scythian settlement was located on the territory of Sarzhyn Yar. For the first time, the remains of an ancient civilization were discovered in 1946 by I. Levitsky. In 2006, security excavations were carried out for the construction of a sports center. Then about four dozen household and residential complexes, a huge amount of material material, fragments of ceramics, bronze arrowheads and iron knives were found.

The territory of the park began to be ennobled when residential buildings began to appear around Sarzhyn Yar. At the beginning of the 20th century, the Pavlovo Pole area began to be built up here. Thanks to the source of drinking water, Sarzhyn Yar became one of the main green areas of the city in the post-war period.

In 1960, one of the main attractions appeared in the park - a concrete pavilion in the form of a star, where residents of Kharkiv still come to this day to collect mineral water.

After a large-scale reconstruction in 2020, Sarzhyn Yar has everything for a comfortable and varied pastime: playgrounds, a sports ground, sun loungers, pedestrian and bicycle paths that connect Sarzhyn Yar with Gorky Park. In addition, the park can be reached by using the cable car.

A wooden temple that was built in 2011.

By renting a fishing rod from the lake, you can catch trout yourself.

In one part of Sarzhyn Yar there is a font where many people gather to plunge into the cool running water.

On August 30, the russians fired at Sarzhyn Yar, where people were at that time, one woman died.

I like to walk in this place most of all in autumn, it fascinates me with its bright colors. But now I won’t be able to be there without thinking that one ordinary summer day, a person died here who came to draw water for himself.
